Audiences were “shocked” by a performance of Beauty and the Beast at Springwood High School last week.
The musical was performed at Peter Hopkins Hall at King’s Lynn School, a member of the West Norfolk Academies Trust.
“The show was a huge success and I am extremely proud of everyone involved in this production, from the leads to the chorus members to the technical staff behind the scenes. This would not have been possible without a true team effort. ” said Robin Norman, director of music at the school and trust.
“After opening night, I heard one audience member say that he had no idea this was a school production, that it was of this quality, and that he thought it should be played again in theaters.
“A special mention must go to director Samantha Burchell, whose vision for her work and way of telling stories has been an inspiration to all,” Norman added.
The show features familiar and favorite characters such as Belle, Gaston, Lumiere, Mrs. Potts, and Cogsworth, and is based on the original Broadway production that ran for more than 13 years.
It includes some of the most popular songs written by Alan Menken and the late Howard Ashman, as well as new songs by Mr. Menken and Tim Rice.
