The BCCI will award a bonus of 1.25 billion rupees (about US$15 million) to the Indian team if they win the T20 World Cup. Chairman Jay Shah made the announcement in a post on X, a day after India won a thrilling final against South Africa in Barbados by seven runs.
“Delighted to announce the prize money of Rs 1.25 crore to be awarded to the Indian team for winning the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024,” Shah posted. “The team demonstrated exceptional talent, determination and sportsmanship throughout the tournament. Congratulations to all the players, coaches and support staff on this fantastic achievement!”
The ICC had already announced a $2.45 million prize for the World Cup winner, plus $31,154 for each match won, excluding the semi-finals and final. The ICC prize money is the largest ever for a men’s T20 World Cup, and an increase of $850,000 from the $1.6 million England received in 2022.
Overall, all teams will receive more prize money/participation fees from this tournament than before. The tournament’s total prize pool has more than doubled from $5.6 million in 2022 to $11.25 million this year, meaning an increase in prize money for all 20 participating teams.
Runners-up South Africa will receive $1.28 million in prize money (up from $800,000 in 2022), while Afghanistan and England, who lost in the semi-finals, will each receive $787,500 (up from $400,000 in 2022).
