The collection is appropriately named time, consists of porcelain stoneware tiles in three sizes (1.5 x 1.5 inches, 1.5 x 8 inches, 8 x 8 inches). The eight colors – Etna Black, Dakota Grey, Dover White, Salta Red, Highland Green, Virginia Blue, Sahara Sand and Atlas Brown – are rich, grounded colors inspired by geology, geography, landscapes and specific locations. And it’s perfect. A range of colors, also available in smooth and rough finishes (the latter distinguished by flecks in the material), and sophisticated size combinations allow for endless configurations combining hue, scale, or both. As it happens, the stoneware material itself has a specific explanation behind the idea of Barber & Osgerby’s collection. Delving into the complex process of natural weathering over time, how the consistent influence of water and wind gradually wears and polishes surfaces, shaping landscapes and transforming rough terrain into more elegant forms.
