Train users and football fans have been warned that last-minute cancellations of flights from Manchester to London scheduled for tomorrow’s match between Chelsea and City at the Etihad Stadium could affect them.
Passengers traveling to the capital from Piccadilly may also be affected. Chelsea fans planning to head to Manchester for the 5.30pm Premier League match are likely to miss the last train back to London.
It was announced that the last train to London would be at 6.55pm, earlier than usual, and that the 8.15pm train would be cancelled. The game is scheduled to end around 7:15 p.m.
An Avanti spokesperson said: “Replacement rail buses are in place for customers affected by the 8.15pm suspension and a station management plan has also been developed to assist customers at the station.” said. Passengers are urged to check before heading to the station.

Manchester’s Bee Network told X: ‘We became aware of this on Saturday. [17 Feb], Avanti services are subject to last-minute cancellations, with the last direct train from Manchester to London departing at 18:55. Please check your itinerary in advance and right before your trip. ”
The Metropolitan Police’s Football Unit said: ‘Tomorrow’s 2015-hour train from Manchester Piccadilly to Euston is likely to be canceled by @AvantiWestCoast who has advised alternative travel arrangements. It was supposed to be the last train for supporters back to London.” M.C.F.C. ”
Manchester City’s fan support account said: “We have been informed by Avanti West Coast that a number of Saturday services on the Manchester route are expected to be cancelled.
