Manager Diego Simeone feels it will be up to the medical staff to decide whether Antoine Griezmann will be available for Atletico Madrid’s Champions League round of 16 second leg against Inter Milan.
As reported by FCInter1908, the Colchoneros manager gave an update on the future status of his key striker in a press conference.
Later this month, Atlético will host Inter in the second leg of the Champions League round of 16.
It was a match in which the Spanish giants knew from the beginning that they had a big mission to overturn their inferior position from the first leg.
Atlético therefore want to be able to use as many key players as possible.
And in that regard, one of the big question marks is the fitness of France international Griezmann.
The 32-year-old suffered an ankle sprain towards the end of the first leg.
And with less than two weeks remaining, there will be some concerns about Griezmann’s signing from Atletico’s perspective.
Atletico coach Simeone said: “The doctors will decide on Griezmann’s condition.”
“I try to think positively about it,” he added.
“I always try to imagine things going well,” the coach said.
“We need the last push in the league and then obviously the second half against Inter in the Champions League,” he continued.
Inter defeated Atlético 1-0 in the first leg at San Siro.
In that match, Griezmann started alongside midfielder Marcos Llorente in the Colchoneros’ attacking line.
Alvaro Morata was able to play again after returning from injury in this match.
Meanwhile, Angel Correa replaced Griezmann against the Nerazzurri. There is also former Manchester United and Barcelona striker Memphis Depay as an attacking option.
