At a time when so many historic buildings and works of art are being demolished or desecrated, our understanding of what should be erected in public spaces is challenged. Is it the responsibility of experts, landowners, or a committee of public (and populist) opinion? Perhaps it’s a slice of each. Artists and commissioners are tasked with negotiating these interests and who exactly public art should serve. Is public art a problem “forever” or “in our time”?

Stella Yoannou We launched Lacuna in 2010 to bring visionary public art projects and events to life. Her established relationships with London’s business and arts communities enrich her curatorial and leadership roles and contribute to Lacuna’s successful growth. Prior to joining Lacuna, Ioannou was Founding Deputy Director of the London Festival of Architecture (2003-2007) and Client Director of Profirst (2007-2009), an international luxury events agency. Ta. Ioannou is Artistic Director of Sculpture in the City, the UK’s largest annual urban sculpture park, and a member of the City Arts Initiative (since 2011). She is a former Culture Mile Curator of Outdoor Art (2017-2019) and Creative Lead for Celebrate the City (2012), the Square Mile’s cultural program for the London Olympics. Ioannou is an accredited consultant to the Mayor of London and London Boroughs of Culture, a trained architect and dancer, a liveryman member and court assistant with the Worshipful Company of Chartered Architects, and a member of the Urban Architecture Forum. there is. Mr Ioannou was also an advisor to the City of London’s Eastern Cities Cluster Region Strategy (2017-2019) and joined the Mayor’s Culture and Commerce Taskforce in 2021. Ioannou regularly lectures and serves as an art juror in the UK and abroad.
