This unique system in Europe was created in 1994 following the recommendations of Inspector General Marc Gauthier (Director of Antiquities of Provence from 1984 to 1986). The Interregional Archaeological Research Commission (CIRA) became the Regional Archaeological Research Commission (CTRA) in 2016.
In 2023, CTRA published opinions on approximately 2,000 files (preventive excavation projects, planned excavation projects, collaborative research projects, symposiums, exhibitions, publications, etc.).
CTRA Sud-Est includes Corsica, the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur regions, and the coast. It will be chaired by the Governor of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region, and the scientific and administrative secretariat will be handled by DRAC PACA/Regional Archeology Department.
The conferences are held eight to nine times a year and are held in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region, with the exception of two in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region and one in Corsica.
In addition to the 10 experts appointed for a period of four years, renewable once, two of them will represent the National Council for Archaeological Research (CNRA) committees, attend committee sessions, and serve as regional curators. and the head of the Underwater Archeology Research Bureau will attend. (DRASSM) and Heritage Inspector.
The Rules of Procedure shall establish the rules for the operation of the Committee. Minutes shall be taken at the end of each session.
The first two meetings of the Committee are aware that this field remains in the national domain and is the first of the authorized operations presented by primarily multidisciplinary and multi-institutional teams. , will be given priority to examining the program’s files.
In 2022, 378 files were reviewed and in 2023, 471 files were reviewed.
