Amazon’s £8 travel gadget has over 4,000 ratings and is said to be a “must-have for eliminating airport baggage fees”.
Rising airfares have resulted in many travelers facing hefty fines at the airport due to confusion over the size of free carry-on bags or accidentally overweight bags.
Shoppers are now flocking to Amazon for the £8.27 gadget, which is one of its recent bestsellers, the Manchester Evening News reports.

It’s the Pjp Electronics Digital Luggage Scale, one of the most popular and useful tools on Amazon. This handheld gadget allows you to weigh your case at home before taking it to the airport scale, which could result in a higher bill.
Shoppers claim “everyone who flies should have this”.
This simple “travel staple” product has skyrocketed in popularity, with more than 3,000 Amazon customers purchasing it in the past month. Unlike those that sit on top of traditional airport merry-go-round scales, this handheld device works by wrapping around the handle of a suitcase or under-seat bag, giving an accurate weight measurement when lifted.
No more weighing yourself before or while lifting a heavy suitcase.
According to Amazon’s description, “It eliminates the panic of not knowing the price of a package.”
Underseat bags, which come at no extra charge on airlines such as Ryanair, EasyJet, British Airways and Jet2, have become a popular must-have for holidaymakers. Bags like this one from his CabinMax that cost just £30 can save you from having to pay at least £15 each way to bring a carry-on suitcase on the plane.
According to recent buyer reviews, this digital scale is equally popular. Of the 5,000 Amazon reviews, 72% are a perfect 5 stars, with just 3% of shoppers giving him 1 star. Among the negative comments from some users was that “the battery life was not as long as I expected.” I hoped’.
But the online retailer has been flooded with thousands of users who claim it’s been the key to cutting down on airfares.
One shopper said: ‘I bought this before traveling to the US this month and the person in line before us had to pay $100 in excess baggage fees so it’s not worth it. There was enough.”
Another shopper said the numbers on the scale were accurate. They said: “One thing that really impressed me was the accuracy. When we weighed it at the airport, the weight listed on the product matched exactly, so we were able to adjust our luggage accordingly and avoid any additional charges. We were able to avoid any inconvenience.”
This portable scale features an easy-to-read digital display and a backlit LCD screen for high visibility in low-light conditions. Other brands such as Salter, available on Amazon and Argos, offer similar handheld weighing solutions for travelers, although some models come with hooks rather than straps.
