A TEENAGER who started a hairdressing business out of her bedroom managed to earn £4,000, enough to rent a salon.
Phoebe Taylor, 17, qualified as an eyelash technician last year and is working to build up a client list, earning £4,000 in the process. She juxtaposes her therapy with a part-time university degree, university courses, and another job as an embroidery and vinyl specialist.
Due to her busy schedule, Phoebe often works seven days a week. However, she was able to earn enough to rent her own treatment room at a local salon on Main Street.

Previously, she worked out of a spare room in her parents’ home in Redcar. There, she was able to earn enough profit to rent a salon.
Phoebe said she visited eyelash technicians and saw how much money they were making, so she decided to give it a try.
Phoebe says: “It’s very rewarding. I don’t like to just sit and do nothing. I always have to do something. People say I’m ambitious. I see all my clients. “But it’s great. I love it. I do it.” Sometimes I work until 11pm, seven days a week, and sometimes I start at 8am.
“I’ve always wanted to work for myself, that’s where the money is. I love eyelashes and all my beauty. I’m a true girl beauty girl. I realized how much I was making with my eyelash skills and wanted to contribute to that.” So I decided to go through all the training.

“Now I have my own product out there, I have a great customer base, I’ve sold thousands at 17 years old. Some of my friends don’t even know what they want to do after college. Some people don’t have it. They don’t know how to do it.”
She launched her first business in April 2023 at the age of 16. She offered treatments out of a spare box room in her home, but her customer base expanded rapidly and soon there were too many people coming in and out of her home.
As a result, she moved to a small room rented outside her home, where she began treatment. Currently she has her own room at her local beauty studio.
Phoebe now says she hopes to hire more staff in the future to offer a wider range of beauty treatments.
“I started gathering clients in a small box room at my mother’s house, and then I built more clients and moved into my own beauty salon,” Phoebe said.
“My mom is really proud of me. She loves it and she immerses herself in her work and tells everyone. This is the first thing I say to people who meet me. I’ve gotten really good feedback. First When it opened, people said it was ridiculous, but now they can see I’m getting somewhere.
“So far I’ve earned £4,000 but with university and everything else it’s hard to earn more. I’d love to drop everything and work in beauty full time, but just in case You need to be eligible for it.” So it’s just a waiting game.
“I’m so proud of myself. I had a really tough year, but when you look back, you did it at 16 and 17, which is amazing,” he said. I can’t believe it.”
Phoebe’s mother, Victoria Taylor, said she was proud of her daughter’s spirit and helped her plan and budget for future expansion. Phoebe’s business is known on social media as her Seventeen Lashes and Brows, or @seventeenlashesandbrows.
