INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis woman says gunshots rang out inside a northwest side gym Tuesday night and the scene was “chaos.”
Celia Navarro was in the sauna at VASA Fitness with her sister when she heard gunshots inside the gym.
An adult and a juvenile were injured in the shooting, but both are expected to be OK.

Navarro was able to escape through a nearby emergency exit.
“Within 10 minutes (of entering the sauna), I heard gunshots in the gym,” Navarro said. “People were just running. It was chaos. I didn’t know if it was an argument between two people or if it was the shooter. My mind went to that.”
Navarro said he and his sister fled to a nearby apartment complex without their belongings for safety.
Navarro added, “This is a situation that most people wouldn’t think they would find themselves in, and I feel like I’m going to be more aware of my surroundings.”

On Wednesday, Navarro said she felt it was important to share her story of the incident to encourage others to be aware of their surroundings.
“I’ll be more aware of my surroundings, maybe a little paranoid,” she said.
