Portsmouth, United Kingdom
Veterans of the Normandy landings are travelling aboard a ship from Portsmouth to Caen to take part in the 80th anniversary of the Allied landings in France in 1944. The King paid tribute to the Normandy landings veterans at the commemoration in Portsmouth, saying their “stories of courage, resilience and unity” are moving and inspiring, and “a reminder of what we owe to that great war generation, which is sadly now dwindling in numbers.”
