The comparison site says one in seven festival-goers (13%) leave valuables in their tents and risk their insurance claim being rejected.
Music fans heading to festivals like Glastonbury this weekend are likely to take an average of three gadgets with them this summer.
Research from GoCompare reveals that almost half (43%) of people have no insurance, meaning they risk paying thousands of pounds to replace their smartphone or laptop if it is stolen.
The most common places people store items are in their car (13%) and in their pocket or bag (42%), with only a quarter (26%) keeping expensive tech products in a designated storage area.
Another issue that could take a hit to your wallet on the way home from a festival is not having insurance, with 17% of 2,000 respondents admitting to having insurance.
What’s more, one in ten (9%) said they hadn’t even thought about insurance before going to a music festival.
Going to a festival is expensive anyway, with tickets for next week’s Glastonbury costing over £350.

Ceri McMillan, home insurance spokesperson for GoCompare, said: “We know festivals are all about having fun and living in the moment, but no one wants their happy memories to be ruined because their gadgets have been damaged or stolen and they’re left with no money.”

- Keep your valuables locked up: If possible, use a lockable area in a building or hide your gadgets safely in a locked car. Keep in mind that leaving your belongings unattended (in a tent, for example) may result in your insurance claim being denied.
- Avoid outside pockets: If possible, it’s safer to store gadgets and other belongings in a zippered waist bag or inside pockets rather than outside pockets.
- Be careful at night: At night, make sure you store your valuables in a safe place (out of easy reach, for example at the bottom of your sleeping bag).
- Avoid accepting cash: Most festivals are now cashless, so you don’t need to carry large amounts of cash with you. If you do bring cash, make sure it’s kept safe and not in your pocket.
- Consider travel insurance: Travel insurance doesn’t just help you when you’re abroad – it can also cover the costs of anything going wrong on your UK holiday, like accommodation being cancelled or belongings being lost or stolen.
