Looking for an easy, no-equipment workout you can do at home during your lunch break?
Trainers Vivian and Mike Addo (also known as MrandMrsMuscle on social media) have created a 20-minute bodyweight workout that works every muscle in your body.
Compound exercises are highly efficient because they recruit and train more muscles at the same time than any other type of movement.
Plus, the duo, who have 1.6 million followers on Instagram, have created a routine that’s heart-pounding, challenging, and increases your chances of losing weight.
The workout includes deadlifts with reverse lunges for 45 seconds, followed by 15 seconds of rest.
The workout (below) begins with a warm-up, then jogging in place for 30 seconds while rotating your wrists.
Next, start doing sumo squats, alternating side reaches for 30 seconds.
Next, do a deep squat with your arms moving as far as possible from the floor to overhead.
This movement focuses on your glutes, thighs, abs, and shoulders.
Then deadlift for another 30 seconds with an overhead reach (no hand weights).
Step back with one leg and at the same time lean back slightly with your arms pointing towards the sky.
Next, bring your feet together and reach toward the ground in front of you, keeping your spine as straight as possible and making sure to bend your knees just slightly.
Then repeat with the opposite leg.
Warming up is now complete. This workout includes 45 seconds of movement with 15 seconds of rest in between.
The first exercise is the drop squat. Jump your legs into a squat position while simultaneously extending one arm and touching your fingers to the floor. Try to keep your back straight.
Doing this for 45 seconds will work your thighs, abs, glutes, hamstrings, and back.
Next, do alternating lateral lunges.
Start standing with your feet together, then step to the side, bending the stepping foot and keeping the other leg straight. Alternate your legs.
Next up is a deadlift with a reverse lunge and a modified jumping jack. Instead of jumping out, step your feet out to the side.
Next, do push-ups. You can do it on your lap if you want.
This is followed by a variation of the back extension, where you lie on your back and get into a sphinx position.
Next is the “dead bug”, where you lie on your back with your knees bent in the air and your arms pointing straight up.
Then lower and stretch one leg and the other arm at the same time. Repeat the same motion with your other arm and leg.
Next is a plank to touch and then a diagonal twist.
Then, take a 30-second break while drinking water and wiping off your sweat.
Then repeat the exercise again.
Research shows that compound exercise is highly effective at building strength in record time, maximizing calorie burn, and improving cardiovascular health.
