A Brazilian fitness trainer was found dead outside her parents’ home after an argument with her husband.
On Friday, Deborah “Debbie” Michels’ body was wrapped in red cloth and left on the sidewalk just meters from her parents’ home, local media reported.
“Deborah was a very beloved person here in the community. Friends, family, everyone loved her,” her brother, Alex Michels, 41, told the magazine.
After turning himself in, her husband, Alexander Gansch, 48, admitted to local authorities that he had killed Ms Michels and abandoned her body, local newspapers reported.
Gansch told police that during the argument, he grabbed Michels by the neck, lifted her and threw her against a wardrobe, which made her feel sick.
Gansch then put his wife in his car and drove to the hospital, but on the way he realized that his wife had already died. He began to panic and abandoned her body outside her parents’ home in Montenegro.
“He just dumped this victim’s body in front of his parents’ residence. He not only dumped the mobile phone, but also the victim’s body,” a police spokesperson told GZH.
Police ruled Michels’ death a homicide and requested Gunsch’s custody. He was arrested on Sunday.
“It’s important for us to tell women not to remain silent and to seek help,” the spokesperson said. “The only way to stop these male attackers is for the authorities to do something, because they will never stop.”
Her family told local media that her daughter had never told her family about their sexual relationship with Gansch, but that the two were in the process of separating.
According to GZH, Gansch and Michels have been together for 11 years.
According to local reports, she planned to move into her own apartment the day after her death.
The mother was reportedly supposed to help her daughter pack the day she was found, but was woken up by military police investigating her death.
Her brother said the personal trainer was well known for her love of fitness and enjoyed working with her.
“The people at the gym who worked with her loved her smile and her joy in working. She loved what she did. And it really affected people and our family as well. She was a fascinating person and a very special person,” he said.
She has been working as a personal trainer since 2011 and uses her social media platforms to share her fitness tips and gym routines.
Michels also participated in bodybuilding competitions and worked at a gym in Montenegro.
GHZ said Michels also earned a degree in physical education from Unisinos, a Jesuit university in southern Brazil.
While there, she met Ganshu and helped him train. Her father, Davi Rodriguez da Silva, 71, said the two eventually started dating and started working at the same gym.
“They met there, had a relationship and fell in love,” he told local media.
After learning that the two were planning to separate, Rodríguez da Silva said he went to talk to Gunsch.
“He’s also a father, so I went to talk to him. I believed him. And at night he did this barbaric thing,” he told GZH. “We were a happy family. Now he has destroyed everything.
“We’ve always done the best for our daughter. Let’s preserve her beauty. But it was something incredibly evil. It’s an act of cruelty. I just… , for the love of God, I pray that justice is done. It hurts so much. I don’t want anyone to go through that.”
Her brother said: “This situation is disgusting. What our family wants is justice. No one can go unpunished.”
Her friend Deise Kemero remembers the fitness guru as a “charming person”.
“She shined a light everywhere she went. She had nothing but friends and did only good things,” Cemero said. She said: “She’s a fighter, she’s an entrepreneur, and she can’t explain what happened. She didn’t deserve it. We don’t understand.”
Michels’ funeral was held Saturday. She was buried in the Municipal Cemetery of Montenegro.
