INDIANAPOLIS — The 49ers spent a significant amount of time with offensive line candidates during NFL Scouting Combine meetings.
The organization took advantage of a tackle-rich draft class and completed multiple formal interviews with talented candidates and several Interior offensive linemen in attendance. The following offensive linemen confirmed that they met with the 49ers at the NFL Scouting Combine.
Graham Burton – Duke
Amarius Mims – University of Georgia
Jordan Morgan – University of Arizona
Patrick Paul – University of Houston
Kingsley Suamataia – Brigham Young
JC Latham – Alabama
Trent Williams’ contract runs through the 2026 NFL season, but general manager John Lynch and his staff are focused on the future. The 35-year-old All-Pro has denied considering retirement after the 2023 season, but it’s not too early for the club to start developing a successor.
Jon Feliciano, a versatile center and guard, is scheduled to become a free agent. The journeyman performed well enough to take over the starting right guard role in Week 9 of the 2023 season, and Lynch said the club hopes to have the 32-year-old back in 2024.
“That’s right,” Lynch said at the combine. “He played at a really high level for us. Our plans are a little different, so we wobbled on him like the plans fit. You have to be able to get out of there.
“At the end of the day, he was very good at planning. But what we knew everywhere is that this guy is the glue guy. This is the guy who brings groups together and brings people together. . He’s a tough, brash O-lineman.”
Of the 49ers’ remaining offensive line starters, left guard Aaron Banks, who was selected in the second round (No. 48) of the 2021 NFL Draft, will be drafted in 2025 along with Colton, who was selected in the fifth round (No. 153). He is scheduled to become a free agent. Makiewicz did a solid job at right tackle.
Jake Brendel’s four-year contract will keep him with the club through the 2026 season and keep the group largely together for the time being, but with such a talented group of linemen entering the draft, the 49ers is likely to gain that advantage.
Protecting Brock Purdy is a priority for the 49ers, and this year’s draft class has several candidates who could contribute for some time to come.
