Brendan Rodgers has come under fire for comments he made towards a female reporter after Celtic’s win over Motherwell.
Celtic scored all three points in second-half stoppage time, with Adam Ida and Luis Palma scoring in the fourth and sixth minutes of stoppage time, respectively, to take a 3-1 lead.
But despite the away win keeping them two points clear of strong rivals and league leaders Rangers, Rodgers was not in the best of moods after the final whistle. It’s not too much to say.
In an interview with BBC Radio Scotland after the match, Rodgers could be heard answering questions from a female reporter.
“Stories have been written about this group, but we’re going to write our own story,” he said.
When the reporter asked if she could elaborate on her answer, Rogers immediately shot her dead.
“No,” he said again and again, “you know exactly what I mean.”
“Actually, I don’t know exactly what you mean,” the reporter replied. “Could you tell me? People might want to know. Since you’re the one who brought it up…”
Before the reporter can finish speaking, Rodgers is heard giving the microphone back and walking away.
But what put the former Liverpool manager in trouble was what he said after storming out of the interview.
“Okay, are you done yet?” he says. “Well done, good boy, cheers.”
Rodgers has previously expressed concerns about what he perceives to be a predetermined narrative about Celtic’s determination and ambition in the title race.
Fans online were surprised by Rodgers’ comments.
“Brendan Rodgers used this line in two different post-match interviews, but was patronizing her enough by dropping his attitude at the first hint of a follow-up,” one person said in X. “It’s classy.”
A second said: “Yeah, he handles the pressure really well, tells false stories and looks down on women.”
Celtic next play at home to Dundee on Wednesday as they look to hold off leaders and rivals Rangers.
