In the lead-up to his audio show broadcast on BBC Radio 4, Jazz Emu gave British Comedy Guide an exclusive insight into the making of the series…
So, jazz. Why did you decide to create this program?
Inspired by the philanthropy of Sir Bob Geldof and Bono, this show was conceived as a charity project to give the gift of my peanut butter (smooth) voice to the masses.
It was originally conceived as an officially groundbreaking television show. pitch? A man was sitting in his living room listening to his 4 x 15 minute segment on a radio show that I had written. The Commissioner incorrectly stated that this concept may be more suited to the actual wireless format itself. Here the BBC is once again wasting license fee payers’ money on an ambitious, visionless incarnation of natural genius. As someone who has considered paying a license fee many times, you can imagine my disappointment.

How did you decide on the name of the program?
There were many ideas for the title of the show from the beginning. Below is a selection of authentic draft names. These are not cynically fabricated to maximize the search engine optimization of this article. These include:

Who is this show for?
This show is for audiophiles of all levels. Musico! Anglo! (Edit: The BBC asked me to clarify that there are some exceptions to this).

What was it like working at the BBC?
It was an honor to cross the sacred threshold of one of our nation’s great institutions. To be honest, I was a little worried about the BBC appearing to be unfair. But the producers at the BBC were incredibly enthusiastic, refusing to praise my ideas and not acknowledging that I was saying anything at all. You have to give it to them, they know how to sit on the fence!
The BBC was usually keen to tick a few boxes, so we were very careful about setting the radio show in the North. Of course, it’s never mentioned, doesn’t inform the plot, and isn’t embodied in any of the characters, but if you close your eyes, you think you can really “hear” soot.
What excited you most about taping the show?
Luckily, we were able to record the show in the room next to Louis Theroux. Louis Theroux was caught up in the filming of his latest documentary. The prevalence of loneliness among British men. I was honored that he frequently asked me for advice and consultation. In fact, he was filming and interviewing me while we were recording. If this guy watches the documentary, he probably knows the expert. It’s just a shame that he was always too busy to have a drink at the end of our workday.
