We’ve all heard of ghosting in relationships, friendships, and even among loved ones, and it’s no longer a new phenomenon.
But surprisingly, this concept is not limited to the aforementioned scenario. This is thanks to today’s Generation Z, also known as Generation Z, who are also known for ghosting potential employers.
In a survey of 1,500 companies and 1,500 employees conducted by UK job search portal Indeed, 75% of Gen Z respondents said they had ignored a potential employer in the past year. did. luck report.
The study found that the worst offenders are overwhelmingly younger workers, with nearly 93% of Gen Zers having had a job interview skipped over.
What’s more, we found that 87% managed to successfully interview, secure a job, and sign a contract, only to leave their employer stranded on their first day of work.
When asked why, the survey found that they “feel responsible for their own careers.”
Almost half of those surveyed said they intended to return to the activities they had disappeared from. Older workers said they feel regret and guilt if they don’t go to interviews or meet their employers.
Even Millennials say they are worried that their chances for future opportunities will be hurt.
The study also found that businesses are joining in on the trend. One in five workers complained that their prospective employer did not show up for a phone interview, and 23% were left on hold after only receiving a verbal offer.
