The King smiled and waved as he attended church with the Queen in his first public appearance since his son, the Duke of Sussex, hinted at a possible reconciliation.
Prince Charles arrived in the rain on Sunday morning at St Mary Magdalene Church in Sandringham, Norfolk, holding an umbrella alongside Camilla.
The King, wearing a brown coat, waved to the public before being welcomed by the church’s pastor, Dr. Paul Williams.
Charles is staying at Sandringham after completing his first round of cancer treatment.
It is the 75-year-old king’s first public appearance since Prince Harry suggested in an interview on a US breakfast show that his father’s illness could lead to a reconciliation between the two.
Prince Harry also said: “I love my family” and was “grateful” to be able to spend time with his father, who has returned to the UK following Charles’ cancer diagnosis. .
The duke’s whirlwind 45-minute visit to see his father sparked speculation that the two, who have been estranged since the duke stepped down as a working royal, are trying to rebuild their relationship.
In an interview aired on Good Morning America, it was suggested that a family member’s illness could have a “reunification effect”, with Prince Harry asked: “Is that possible in this case?” He replied, “Yeah, sure.”
