The Duke of Sussex’s recent interview with Good Morning America infuriated royal friends, who accused the prince of talking about his father’s illness on TV and calling his recent cancer diagnosis “promoting his own agenda.” He accused her of using him to do so.
Prince Harry may have distanced himself from the royal family and his father King Charles for good, as his latest bombshell interview appears to have infuriated Buckingham Palace.
He spoke to Good Morning America while spending three days in Canada celebrating ahead of the 2025 Invictus Games. During the appearance, the Duke of Sussex spoke about his family life in Montecito, his father’s cancer diagnosis, and the Invictus Games. In an interview, he hinted at the possibility of reconciling with his family in the future, saying, “I think no matter what illness, no matter what illness, families come together.”

In another response, he told GMA about his recent 24-hour trip back to the UK from California to see his father after news of King’s cancer came out. “I love my family, and I appreciate you getting on a plane and going to see him and spending any time with me.”
But Prince Harry’s tell-all answers were not warmly received by friends and those close to the palace, who slammed the interview as “disgusting”.
A royal source told The Daily Beast: “It seems Prince Harry has decided to use this diagnosis to promote his plans. It would be funny if he didn’t feel so sick. The family is coming together. What was it that really helped me do that?” That would have happened if Harry had said he wouldn’t take questions about his father. ”
Another source close to the royal family told the publication that the royal family was shocked that Prince Harry was “making things even worse” with his interviews and statements in the media.
This isn’t the first time Prince Harry’s comments about the royal family and their relatives have caused an uproar.
It is claimed that the backlash comes as Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan face terminating their contract with Netflix after a “disappointing” four years. After leaving the royal family in 2020, the pair signed a five-year deal with the streaming platform, which is rumored to be worth an estimated £80 million ($100 million). The series is scheduled to end in 2025, but there has been recent speculation about the future of the duo, with some suggesting that they may cut ties with Netflix completely.
Last month, the Sussexes made a rare public appearance at the premiere of Bob Marley: One Love in Kingston, Jamaica, suggesting the Sussexes are not switching from Netflix to Paramount. Speculation was widespread. The couple was seen posing together on a red carpet that was reportedly invited by the CEO of Paramount Pictures.
Pressbox spokeswoman Lynn Carratt told the Mirror at the time: “They will now be turning their attention to finding the next big multi-million pound deal.” He added, “It appears that Paramount could be a strong candidate if it is close to Brian Robbins, the head of Paramount.”
