when you see Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, you have to believe that Rocket Raccoon is real. That’s true throughout the series, but especially here, when he really is the star, it’s so important. It would be a failure if you didn’t buy that Rocket was “real” in the movie. It’s a testament to our visual effects team that we care so much about our characters. So, if I had a chance to talk, Stefan Ceretti (visual effects supervisor), Guy Williams (WETA Visual Effects Supervisor), Theo Bialek (visual effects supervisor), and alexis weissbrodt (Visual Effects Supervisor) came up in the aftermath of my Oscar nomination for Best Visual Effects, but I wasn’t just up for it. Today we bring you our discussion.
In my review of this movie (here), I said the following:
Throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe, no franchise has been as consistently beloved and singularly visionary as the Guardians of the Galaxy films.guided by james gunnSure, all three movies are big sci-fi blockbusters, but they’re also funny stories about friendship and makeshift families. These are more personal stories than they seem on the surface, and that’s part of their appeal.and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Gunn raised the bar and became one of Marvel’s strongest movies in a while. Brace yourself, because this is not only exciting and entertaining, but also emotionally devastating at times.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 This is my last ride with the team I have grown to love. Additionally, Gunn has created a story for this rocket that turns out to be more interesting than I expected with a CGI raccoon. To that end, it’s worth noting that there are some harrowing scenes that put animals in danger, albeit of the computer-generated variety. It’s not in an unpleasant way, but it will be intense for animal lovers. It’s further evidence of how Gunn makes his characters empathetic. Pain and ecstasy, heartbreak and laughter, it’s all here, sandwiched between his sci-fi sequels in the MCU.
You can listen to our conversation with Bialek, Ceretti, Wasysbrodt, and Williams below. Rocket obviously fascinates me, but it’s pretty mind-blowing to hear how the Marvel team and his WETA team come together to make this all work. They’re really nice people, really passionate about their work, and I really enjoyed talking to them. The fact that the rocket was widely praised Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 It just continues the franchise’s trend of them getting Academy Award nominations and showing what a perfect job they did. Next, I’ll show you some before and after images, followed by a talk.
