Hadji Wright said it was a difficult game but a great performance from him and his team-mates as they came from behind to beat Millwall.
The striker scored both goals in the second half, with City completing the comeback in three minutes.
The win moved City back into the top six and Wright reflected on another positive afternoon for the Sky Blues.
Looking back at the performance…
“It was a good performance from the second half onwards. We showed off our quality.
“It was a difficult game. They didn’t make it easy for us, but we showed our quality towards the end and got the three points.”
The first half…
“We know we have quality and we have to win the game. We wanted to win the game, but it was difficult to get behind so early on.
“After they scored, they locked down defensively and tried to shut us down. They gave us a try and we took advantage of that.
“We were able to show our quality. We have a lot of players in the team who can drive with the ball and create space for themselves and others, so that’s good for us.”
Their threat…
“They made it really tough for us. They came out and their physicality was present throughout the whole game. It was difficult for us to deal with it, but they scored goals. .
“They posed a big threat from set-pieces and corner kicks. They took advantage of that and tried to take long shots at throw-ins and corners. They have some players who are very good in the air. So it was difficult for us.
“It was tough, but we were able to show our quality.”
Halftime team talk…
“The coach said there were a lot of good things, but there were also some bad things that we needed to work on to improve our game and win.
“He told us to keep moving forward, be calm on the ball and attack when we have space.”
As for penalties…
“So I won the penalty and me and Callum had a quick discussion about who was going to take the penalty.
“We played rock, paper, scissors.
“I know Callum is great at taking penalties and there are a few slow steps and he’s probably going to score 90 per cent of the time, but I was confident in myself so I wanted to take the penalty.
“Fortunately, I won the rock-paper-scissors game. I went for the rock! I was a little late in throwing, but that’s what it is.”
“We are both hungry players. We want to succeed. We want to show our quality on the pitch and it was good to score a goal and help the team.”
His second goal…
“Callum is a great player. In the assist you can see he dribbled past two players and ran 50 yards with the ball. He made a perfect pass to me and it was a good shot. Luckily it came in.
“Normally when you open your body and shape up, like when you take a shot to the far post, goalies kind of cheat a little bit. That’s what I did.”
The team is now progressing through the ranks…
“In the early stages, it was difficult for the new players and those remaining from last season to come together.
“We are starting to gel. We have a really good team, quality in every position, so everyone is fighting to get on the pitch.”
