NEW DELHI: Making his much-awaited return home from Barbados, India captain Rohit Sharma, for the first time, invited team fans to the victory parade at Marine Drive and the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
In an interview with X, Rohit shared details about the Mumbai roadshow.
“Fellow Indians, I want to enjoy this special moment with you all. So, let’s celebrate this victory with a victory parade on 4th July at Marine Drive & Wankhede from 5 pm. I am coming home,” Rohit posted on X.
BCCI Secretary General Jay Shah also extended an invitation to fans, urging them to take part in the victory parade and salute a victorious Team India.
“Join the victory parade to celebrate Team India’s World Cup victory! Head down to Marine Drive and Wankhede Stadium on 4th July from 5pm and celebrate with us! Don’t forget the date!” he wrote to X.
India’s World Cup winning squad finally returned home on Wednesday after their departure was delayed by three days due to a hurricane in the West Indies.
Air India’s special charter flight AIC24WC (Air India Champions 24 World Cup) is scheduled to take off at around 4:50 a.m. local time and land in the Indian capital at around 6:20 a.m. (Indian Standard Time) on Thursday.
Favourites India won the tournament by beating South Africa in a thrilling final on Saturday, but their tour plans were disrupted by Hurricane Beryl.
“The team has left Barbados on a special Air India flight arranged by BCCI. Indian journalists stranded there (Barbados) will also arrive on the same flight along with BCCI president (Roger Binny) and secretary general (Jay Shah), who are looking after all the logistics,” BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla told PTI.
“The plane will land at Delhi airport at 6 am tomorrow. The team will meet Narendra Modi at the Prime Minister’s residence at 11 am. The team will then fly to Mumbai where the ceremony is scheduled to take place.”
Special flights were arranged for the players as they were stuck in the hotel for three days after the win.
