President Joe Biden sent a letter to Democratic lawmakers on Sunday asserting his intention to remain in the White House after they joined calls for him to resign — an unwelcome interruption for the president as he hosts a NATO summit in Washington DC this week.
In closed-door crisis talks convened by House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, several lawmakers, including Jerry Nadler, Susan Wild, Adam Smith and Mark Takano, suggested it was time for the 81-year-old Biden to step down following his disastrous debate with Donald Trump in Atlanta last month.
Five Democrats have publicly said the same, with Vice President Kamala Harris expected to be the party’s nominee in 2024 and the influential Adam Schiff praising her yesterday.
But the president insisted in an interview with ABC on Friday that he was convinced he was the right man to challenge Trump — claiming only “God Almighty” could convince him — and he also remained defiant in his callout to the host. Morning Joe Monday morning.
Biden spent the weekend campaigning in Pennsylvania, speaking at a Philadelphia church yesterday before meeting briefly with campaign staff, union members and local Democrats, including Senator John Fetterman.

Whitmer cancels 2024 presidential debate
Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer is releasing a new memoir at a particularly challenging time for herself and the Democratic Party.
“True Grecci,” due for release on Tuesday amid the furor surrounding President Joe Biden’s recent debate performance, likely won’t do much to dispel doubts about her national ambitions. But in a pre-release interview with The Associated Press, Gov. Whitmer did all she could to quash such speculation, stating categorically that she wouldn’t run again if President Biden were to step down.
“It’s more of a distraction than anything,” Whitmer said. “I’m totally focused on running my government and campaigning for candidates, so I hate having my name in an article like this.”
Nigel Farage to act as ‘bridge between Trump and the UK’ if he wins: ‘He won’t speak to the PM’
One political commentator has suggested that Donald Trump will use Nigel Farage as his “conduit to the UK” following the general election result. Speaking to GB News about a new Labour government, Theo Asherwood claimed that new Foreign Secretary David Lammy would find it “very difficult” to work with Trump if he wins the US presidential election in November. “It’s going to be very difficult for the Labour party and it’s going to cause real friction,” he said. “Especially with the election of Nigel Farage, Donald Trump doesn’t care about formalities. He’s not going to do things the way Whitehall wants him to. He’s not going to go through Downing Street.”

VP candidate Rubio distances himself from Project 2025 and Trump
Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, a leading contender to be President Trump’s running mate, on Sunday sought to distance Republican front-runners from Project 2025 and defended the former president.
“Think tanks do think tank work, they put out ideas, they speak out,” he told CNN. Trade Union Status When asked if he was “comfortable” with the policies outlined in the initiative led by the conservative Heritage Foundation, he replied: “I’m not happy with them.
Rubio downplayed the impact of the 920-page project, which proposes consolidating executive power and replacing impartial civil servants with ideologically approved successors who have sworn an oath of loyalty.
