Every January, a little show called CES gives a preview of the technology coming in the year and beyond.
CES 2024 took Las Vegas by storm again this month, attracting thousands of exhibitors and more than 100,000 visitors. But we’re not here for the stats: We want gadgets, goodies, world-changing AI smarts, and, of course, flying cars.
Here are 10 technologies we’ve seen that feel more futuristic and advanced than the rest.
10 Future Gadgets That Are Already Here
1Withings BMO
Withings is good at making eye-catching health gadgets, and the Beamo is a “4-in-1” health-checking device that features an ECG, temperature, blood oxygen levels, and, most unusually, a “digital stethoscope” that listens to your lungs to make sure all is well.
2LG Signature OLED T
Fit for a Bond villain’s lair, the TV uses a transparent screen that makes it look like a virtual fish is floating in the air, and when you want to actually watch a movie, the black backplane can be rolled back, and it’s motorized so it looks like a regular OLED TV.
3Nanoleaf Orchestrator Software
Nanoleaf’s smart lights have been able to sync with music since 2017, but the new Orchestrator software takes it to the next level, analyzing your tracks more closely to identify beats and melodies, and giving you more control and customization over the look of your performance, allowing you to make specific lights react to a bass line, for example.
FourSegway Go Kart Pro 2
Think Segways are just some embarrassing vehicles driven by helmeted vacationers? Think again. The GoKart Pro 2 is an electric go-kart that can reach speeds of nearly 30 mph on a track. Indoors, it can be used as a simulation rig for racing video games, complete with vibration feedback.
Five. Bali Robot
Ballie is back. Samsung showed off its Ballie robot in 2020, but in 2024, it’ll have even more AI (not everything) and a projector where the Pixar robot’s eyes should be. It moves. It talks. It can even project your favorite YouTubers through your kitchen wall. And it’s super cute. Will we ever see it on sale? The question remains.
6. Rabbit R1
This isn’t a phone. It’s not a tablet. It’s an AI portal that uses a little rocker control to display the results of your voice requests in a digital information card. The secret is Teenage Engineering’s design, which makes this product so appealing. The phone already does all this and more. Pre-order for $199.
7XPeng AeroHT eVOTL
You may have seen CGI-rendered concepts of flying cars and stilt trains on social media, but XPeng has actually built a prototype flying car. It looks like a sports car, and when commanded, quadcopter propellers extend from the rear. Amazing, right? Did it actually move at the show? Of course not, but XPeng does appear to have opened pre-orders for another modular flying car, due for release in 2025.
8. JBL Live TWS 3t
Have you heard of truly wireless (TW) earbuds? Have you heard of wireless charging TW earbuds? These are TW earbuds with a little TV built into the case. Sure, you can’t watch episodes of Frasier on the 1.45″ LCD display, but you can display album art or pictures of your dog. Sold out!
9mercedes sound drive
Mercedes-Benz has partnered with Black Eyed Peas’ self-promotional maestro will.i.am to launch SoundDrive, an AI-powered system that makes music react to driving actions like accelerating, braking, steering and gear shifting, making it feel like it’s really the driving soundtrack. Apparently, for now it only works with specific tracks that have been tuned for the system.
Ten. Wiltex Wilcook
This appears to be a random product generator. This is a bag that can cook your dinner. Willtex is a textile company that makes bags and backpacks with heated pouches that reach 80 degrees Celsius in just a few minutes. And it runs on the same kind of battery packs you use to charge your phone. You probably shouldn’t try to cook raw chicken in it, though.
