‘Let’s get started, friends’: Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau urges Starmer to work together to build a ‘progressive and fair future’
The centre-left opposition Labour Party won a landslide victory, bringing to an end 14 years of Conservative rule and making Keir Starmer the new Prime Minister of the UK.
“Change starts here”, Starmer, 61, told cheering activists at a victory party rally in central London on Friday, promising a “decade of national renewal” with “country first, party second”.

Irish Prime Minister Simon Harris
“Keir Starmer has delivered a comprehensive victory for the Labour Party. The relationship between Ireland and the UK means so much to all people living on our islands,” Harris said in a statement. “I look forward to early discussions with the new prime minister.”

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen
“I look forward to working together with you in a constructive partnership to address our common challenges and strengthen European security,” von der Leyen wrote on X.

“The European Union and the UK are important partners working together in all areas of common interest for our people. I look forward to working with you and the UK government in this new cycle,” Michel said.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese
“We have a strong relationship between our two countries and I very much look forward to working with Sir Keir Starmer, Angela Rayner and many other members of the British Labour Party who I know well,” Albanese told reporters.
“They have very similar views to us on a range of issues and I’m sure we will continue to work closely together in AUKUS, the trilateral security alliance between Australia, the UK and the US, which we’ve worked very closely with the previous administration as well,” he said.
