India’s star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has announced his retirement from T20Is after India’s T20 World Cup victory. Jadeja follows Indian batting stalwarts Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in announcing their retirement from the shortest format of the game. The all-rounder announced his retirement on his official Instagram account.
“It is with a heart full of gratitude that I bid farewell to T20 Internationals. Like a steady horse galloping with pride, I have always given my best for my country and will continue to do so in other formats as well. Winning the T20 World Cup was a dream come true and the pinnacle of my T20 International career. Thank you for the memories, well wishes and unwavering support,” Jadeja wrote.
Jadiya has been an integral part of India’s T20I squad for many years and played a vital all-round role in the 2024 edition. As a batsman, Jadiya played a crucial cameo in India’s semi-final win over England, smashing a non-runaway 17 off just nine balls. Though he only took one wicket in the tournament, he was fairly economical for his team, conceding runs at an economy rate of 7.57.

Jadeja played 74 T20Is for India, scoring 515 runs in 41 innings, 17 of which were unbeaten. The all-rounder was primarily a lower-middle-order batsman. When bowling, Jadeja maintained a high economy rate and finished his T20I career with an impressive 7.13 rpo.
He took 54 wickets in the shortest format.
Jadiya will continue to represent the team in Test matches and ODIs and will remain a key member of the squad. Jadiya, one of the few all-format players in the Indian national team, was forced to miss the 2022 edition of the T20 World Cup due to injury, as India faltered in their 10-wicket defeat to England in the semi-finals of the tournament.
He made his return to T20Is in December last year after being away from the format for over a year, signalling the team management’s intention to bring him into the squad as they prepare for the T20 World Cup. He has featured in every match for India in the 2024 edition.
