India’s former World Cup winning captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Sachin Tendulkar and others congratulated the Indian team after they defeated South Africa on Saturday, June 29, to win the T20 World Cup 2024.
In his first Instagram post in a year, MS Dhoni shared a picture of the Indian national team and wished them an early “priceless” birthday gift. MS Dhoni’s birthday falls on July 7.
After India won their second ever T20 World Cup, Dhoni took to social media to praise the ‘Men in Blue’ for their victory.
“World Cup Champions 2024. Heart rate increased. Stayed calm, believed in yourself and did a great job everyone did. A heartfelt thank you from all Indians back home and across the world for bringing the World Cup to your country. Congratulations. Thank you for the priceless birthday gift,” Dhoni posted on his Instagram page.
Legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar also joined Dhoni in expressing his joy at the win and said that with this, the ‘Men in Blue’ have bagged their second and fourth stars in the T20 World Cup.
“The addition of a star on the Indian team jersey will inspire all the dreaming kids of our country to get one step closer to their dreams. India has earned its 4th star and 2nd star in the @T20WorldCup. Indian cricket in the West Indies has come full circle – from a struggling ODI World Cup in 2007 to becoming a cricketing powerhouse and winning the T20WC in 2024. I am truly happy for my friend Rahul Dravid. Though he missed out on the World Cup in 2011, his contribution to this T20 World Cup triumph is immeasurable. I am truly happy,” Tendulkar wrote on Twitter.
“What can I say about @ImRo45? Amazing captaincy! Kudos to him for forgetting the defeat at the 2023 ODI World Cup and keeping all the players motivated for the T20 World Cup. @Jaspritbumrah93’s Player of the Tournament and @imVkohli’s Player of the Match were both well-deserved awards. They performed brilliantly when it mattered. Along with Rahul, Paras Muhambray and Vikram Rathour also made their international debuts in 1996. It was fantastic to see the Indian team perform under the guidance of this ’96 batch. A huge team effort. Heartiest congratulations to the players, coaches, support staff and @BCCI,” he added.
Anil Kunbru, Sourav Ganguly, VVS Laxman and Gautam Gambhir among others congratulated the Indian team.
“Congratulations to the Indian team on being crowned World T20 champions. They remained unbeaten throughout the tournament and were a fantastic team,” VVS Laxman, current chairman of the National Cricket Academy, wrote on X.
“With five overs remaining, the team showed great composure and grit to emerge victorious. Credit must go to the players who gave it their all, rose to the occasion and Rohit led brilliantly,” he said.
Former head coach and India captain Anil Kunble commented, “Congratulations to the Indian team! A fantastic win.” Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh also praised all the players for winning the T20 World Cup.
“Yeh Mera India. We are the champions. Proud of you,” former spinner Harbhajan Singh posted to X.
India won the T20 World Cup trophy for the first time in 13 years on Saturday, defeating South Africa by seven runs in the final.
