It was a brilliant catch in itself. But to get a batsman out, a fielder needs to not only catch the ball but also control it in the field. Trent Boult learned that in the 2019 ODI World Cup final at Lord’s when he caught Ben Stokes but stepped on the boundary rope for a six. Just like Boult then, Yadav was heading for the ropes. And that led to the next stage of his mission.
2nd stage
Avoiding the boundary rope was key as Yadav tried to keep his balance while clutching the ball. His first step, with his right foot, was the furthest from the boundary but was fine.
