South Africa advanced to the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup after beating co-hosts West Indies in a tense three-wicket Duckworth-Lewis-Stern match in a winner-take-all Super Eights match.
With England booked their place in the last four on Sunday, the match in Antigua effectively became a quarter-final to decide who would advance from Group 2.
Chasing the DLS revised target of 123, South Africa wobbled at times but ultimately withstood the pressure as Marco Jansen smashed a six with five balls to spare to seal victory.
The Proteas had restricted the West Indies to 135 for 8 and looked to be in the ascendancy but two runs from Andre Russell in the second over of the chase left them at 15 for 2.
However, the Windies’ momentum was soon halted by a sudden downpour, forcing the players to rest for around 75 minutes.
South Africa fought back with a new target in the 17th over and a string of boundaries put them back in the lead.
But with a rapturous crowd at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium cheering them on, West Indies kept fighting, with Roston Chase scoring 52 with the bat and taking three wickets.
As the match headed towards a tense conclusion with South Africa scoring nine off seven balls, Kagiso Rabada picked up four with a brilliant cover drive before Jansen finished the job at the start of the final over.
Earlier, it was the South African spinners who did the damage with the ball, with Tabraiz Shamsi taking 3-28.
The Proteas finished top of their group, with England in second place and set to face the runners-up from Group 1.
