Bangladesh overcame several crises to beat Nepal by 21 runs and booked the final berth in the Super 8 stage of the T20 World Cup.
Bangladesh, who needed a win to secure second place in Group D, were bowled out for 106 points but that total proved enough as Nepal were thrashed for 85 points.
Bangladesh got off to a terrible start in St Vincent when a loose delivery from Tanjid Hasan Tamim was easily returned by Sonpal Kami.
Wickets fell at regular intervals with Shakib Al Hasan top-scoring with 17 and only some late batting from Rishad Hossain and Taskin Ahmed got them to three figures.
A loss for Bangladesh would give the Netherlands a chance to beat Sri Lanka big time and overtake Bangladesh on net run rate.
But Nepal fought back early as Tanzim Hasan Saqib, who took 4-7 in the fourth over, picked up two wickets in three balls. Opener Aasif Sheikh hit four fours in 17 balls but fell at the end of the seventh over to leave the score at 26-5.
Kusher Mara and Dipendra Singh Irey combined for 52 to keep Bangladesh on their toes and bring the target within reach before experienced left-armer Mustafizur Rahman returned to dismiss Mara for 27.
Airey hit Taskin Ahmed for the sixth over and Nepal needed 22 off 16 balls, but 12 consecutive dot balls gave Bangladesh the win and Nepal could not get any closer.
Airey lost Mustafizur for 25 after a wicket maiden in the 19th over, finishing with 3-7, but Shakib came back to take the final two wickets off the first two balls of the final over.
Sri Lanka finishes T20 World Cup with victory over Netherlands
Sri Lanka recorded their first T20 World Cup victory, beating the Netherlands by 83 runs in St Lucia.
Charis Asaranka hit five sixes as Sri Lanka, who had lost their opening three matches, equalled the tournament’s highest score of 201 for 6, a total well ahead of the Netherlands.
Bangladesh needed a big win and a heavy defeat against Nepal to book a place in the last eight, but the Netherlands got off to a perfect start when Vivian Kingma dismissed Pathum Nissanka off the second ball.
However, he was the only top-order batsman to fall, with opener Kusal Mendis leading the way with 46 runs off 27 balls.
Asaranka equalised with 21 balls to go before Dhananjaya de Silva added 34 before picking up two quick wickets to give the Netherlands hope of keeping the total down.
However, Angelo Mathews scored 30 off 15 balls and captain Wanindu Hasaranga made 20 off just six balls to equal Australia’s score against England.
The Dutch fightback started well with opener Michael Levitt scoring 31 off 23 balls, but wickets began to fall rapidly after his partner Max O’Dowd was run out for 45.
Captain Scott Edwards resisted with 31 runs but Nuwan Tushara took 3-24 in the 17th over to see his side defeated for 118 runs.

Netherlands, Sri Lanka and Nepal All were eliminated from the tournament.
