Co-hosts West Indies won their second T20 World Cup title, putting an unwanted mark in the record books for Uganda.
Tournament debutants Uganda, chasing an unlikely score of 174 to win in Guyana, were bowled out for 39 in the 12th over with Akeel Hosin taking 5-11.
This was the lowest score in the history of the T20 World Cup, matching the score recorded in the Netherlands vs Sri Lanka match in 2014, while the victory by 134 runs was the second-largest margin of victory in the tournament’s history.
Opener Johnson Charles scored 44 off 42 balls, hitting two sixes and four fours, to give West Indies early momentum.
Nicholas Pooran smashed 22 off 17 balls, clearing the ropes three times, while skipper Rovman Powell scored 23 off 18 balls and Sherfaan Rutherford smashed 22 off 16 balls.
Andre Russell played a cameo towards the end, hitting six fours off 30 not out in 17 balls to help West Indies reach 173-5.
West Indies’ Akeel Hosin celebrated with his teammates after taking five wickets against Uganda.
Hosin caught opener Roger Mukasa leg-before off the second ball of Uganda’s innings, beginning a steady flow of wickets with only two batsmen finishing with more than 10 balls to their name.
Trailing 25-8 in the top of the eighth, Uganda was on the verge of breaking the record for lowest score until Juma Miyagi fought back late in the game.
He equalised the score with 13 runs without a loss from 20 balls but Alzarri Joseph had Frank Nsubuga for a duck to finish with 2-6 in the third over.
The West Indies are joint-top of their pool with Afghanistan after two wins and will face New Zealand in Trinidad on Wednesday night.
Uganda will complete their tournament debut against New Zealand on Friday night.
