Vacuum extraction technology maximizes the health benefits of your tea or coffee blend and ensures an incredibly smooth brew. Plus, it brews amazing, sediment-free coffee every time. “Other rapid brewers on the market use motors to extract the coffee, which results in cloudy coffee,” explains Tribest CEO William Choi. “We use negative pressure to get a clearer coffee.”
Brod & Taylor pour-over coffee maker
Brod & Taylor’s pour-over accessories aim to simplify the rigorous process of making pour-overs and provide consistent results every time. As you pour hot water into the pour-over chamber, the stainless steel dripper enhances extraction. The outer layer is a rubber sleeve that secures the pour-over coffee maker to your cup to prevent slipping and protects your hands from hot surfaces. This insulation not only sets this device apart from the competition, it also keeps your brewed coffee at the optimum temperature.
Made from stainless steel, the dripper is guaranteed to last, says Warren Taylor, product manager and engineer for the patent-pending device, who put it to the test during a bike ride to TIHS with the dripper in a backpack. The matte black design will appeal to coffee lovers, but so will the fact that it fits neatly atop a matching French press, making the coffee maker even more practical.
While some home cooks may be intimidated by the somewhat tedious drip process, Taylor says the dripper is designed to extract flavor with ease. “Drip speed is a big part of our engineering,” Taylor says. “There are different holes drilled in it to make sure the water drips at the right rate. Some people brew coffee with a ‘pour for 42 seconds and pause’ sequence, but as long as the coffee grounds are submerged, it will keep dripping and extracting.”
AeroPress Go Travel Coffee Maker
This portable coffee maker is perfect for traveling, camping, or anywhere you want freshly brewed coffee. The device works similarly to a French press; you put coffee grounds and hot water into the chamber and press down to brew the coffee. Unlike a French press, however, the Aeropress comes with a small paper filter to brew a smoother coffee. You can also make cold brew with this gadget; press the liquid directly onto ice to chill it. Its small size and ability to break down into parts make it convenient for travel and save you from having to drink stale hotel coffee.
The Go’s silicone lid also acts as a non-slip pad, helping to stabilize the bottom of the device, which is helpful when brewing coffee in unexpected places, like a wobbly kayak. Ben Jones was the 2016 World Aeropress Champion, a global competition for best coffee brewed with an Aeropress, and he was handing out drinks at TIHS. He’s also been known to fill a thermos with hot water and brew coffee in the middle of a lake before fishing. “I wish we’d built this Aeropress from the beginning,” says Jones. “It’s easy to carry, but every Aeropress brews the same way, so you don’t have to learn new techniques to get the same consistent taste.”
Jura Z10 Coffee and Espresso Machine
With this machine, you may never need to go to a coffee shop again. This Swiss product can make espresso shots, cold brew, flat whites, lattes and more, all in one sleekly designed product. The unique product-aware grinder detects the drink you’re trying to brew and properly grinds the beans accordingly. You can even control this machine from your smartphone or tablet, so your morning coffee is ready before you even get out of bed.
Jura prides itself on its machines using beans instead of pods to start your day. “It’s more sustainable, you get fresher coffee, and the grounds are compostable,” says Anthony Bauer, Jura’s creative manager. “And you can support your favorite coffee shops.” The brand claims to have pioneered a cold brew method, which is featured in its Z10 model, which can brew hot or cold drinks quickly. Other models also offer a unique, customizable sweet foam for those looking to recreate their favorite cafe drinks.
