The winner of the Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 will take home a glittering trophy and a total prize pool of at least $2.45 million, the highest in the tournament’s history. This is an increase of nearly $850,000 from the $1.6 million earned by England, the winners of the last T20 World Cup in Australia in 2022.
The tournament’s total prize money has more than doubled from $5.6 million in 2022 to $11.25 million for this year’s 20-team tournament, meaning the remaining teams’ prize money will also increase.
The runners-up will receive a prize of at least $1.28 million (up from $800,000 in 2022), while the teams that lose in the semi-finals will each receive $787,500 (up from $400,000 in 2022).
The other four teams remaining in the Super Eight will each receive $382,500, the teams that placed 9th through 12th will each receive $247,500, the remaining teams will each receive $225,000, and they will each receive $31,154 for winning each match, except for the two semifinals and the final.
“This event is historic in many ways and it’s only natural that the players’ prize money reflects that,” ICC chief executive Geoff Allardice said in a statement. “Hundreds of millions of fans around the world will be entertained by the players in this incredible event.”
The T20 World Cup 2024, which began on Saturday with the United States beating Canada in the opening match, is divided into four groups of five teams each.
A total of 40 first-round matches will be played before the top eight teams advance to the Super Eight stage, from which the four semi-finalists will be decided. Group A consists of the United States, Canada, India, Ireland and Pakistan. Group B consists of Australia, England, Namibia, Oman and Scotland. Group C consists of the West Indies, Afghanistan, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and Uganda. Group D consists of Bangladesh, Nepal, Netherlands, South Africa and Sri Lanka.
The two semi-finals will be played in Tarouba and Providence on June 27, while the final will be played in Bridgetown on June 29.
