Britain’s Laurie Canter won the European Open by two strokes to claim her first DP World Tour title, while compatriot Carla Gaynor finished fifth in the Helsingborg Open on the Women’s European Tour.
Kanter was sharing the lead with Guido Miliozzi at 12 under going into the final round in Hamburg and shot a 1-under 72 on Sunday to win his first DP World Tour trophy after four previous runner-up finishes.
The 34-year-old birdied his first hole of the day but then bogeyed the fifth and tenth holes before making consecutive pars on the back nine, gaining points on the eleventh, fifteenth and sixteenth holes, three of which came on 36-foot putts, to move three strokes ahead of Bernd Wiesberger.

Canter bogeyed the 17th hole but then made par on the 18th to finish at 13 under par, ahead of Wiesberger and Thriston Lawrence, who were at 11 under. Wiesberger’s hopes, like Canter’s, ended with a bogey on the penultimate hole.
“This is everything I wanted to do,” Kanter said, fighting back tears.

“I tried to stay aloof from the tournament and stick to the facts as much as possible. Things went my way today but not in the past. I feel great. It will take me a while to fully process everything that happened.”
“Now that I’ve done that it opens up opportunities for me and I think I can play the Scottish Open in July, which would be fantastic.”
“Ultimately, to climb the world rankings and play in the biggest tournaments in the world, I need to know how to win, and only when I actually win will I have that confidence. Hopefully it means I can keep going and get stronger and stronger.”
South Africa’s Lawrence shot the day’s best five-under 68 to move up to 12th in the rankings, while Italy’s Miliozzi had to settle for eighth at seven under after a five-over final round that included four bogeys and one double bogey.
Delacour wins Ladies European Tour Helsingborg Open
On the Ladies European Tour, Gaynor’s hopes of a first victory were dashed in Sweden when the 28-year-old was tied for the lead with India’s Pranavi Urs at eight under after two rounds but finished one under in the final round to finish two strokes behind.
France’s Perrine Delacour defeated German amateur Helen Bream in a playoff to win her first title at the tournament.
Both players were tied at 11 under after 54 holes, with Delacour shooting a five-under 67 and Bream shooting an eight-under 64 on Sunday.
The Volvo Car Scandinavian Mixed, a joint event between the DP World Tour and the Ladies European Tour, will be shown live on Sky Sports from Thursday, with coverage starting at 12pm on Sky Sports Golf.
