The Indian team is all set to take on Bangladesh at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York on Saturday in their first and only warm-up match for the T20 World Cup in 2024. India last played an international match in this format during the home series against Afghanistan in January this year after which the players were dispersed for the IPL 2024 respective campaign.
India conducted two practice sessions in the run up to the match, with an optional training day on Friday that focused on tail-end batting and hard-hitting bowling drills with Hardik Pandya. However, Virat Kohli, who is reportedly on an extended break after IPL 2024, did not take part in any of the practice sessions as he arrived in New York on Friday evening. It remains to be seen whether Kohli will take part in the warm-up game against Bangladesh.
This will also be India’s maiden appearance at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, where the team will play three of their four group stage matches of the T20 World Cup. Captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid will be eager to assess the condition of the pitch ahead of the first match against Ireland on June 5 and the highly anticipated clash with Pakistan on June 9.
Bangladesh, who are in Group D of the T20 World Cup, will open the tournament against Sri Lanka on June 8 at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Florida before taking on South Africa in New York on June 10.
