I am a huge sucker for anything tech-related, calling my sister Amber if I need to update my phone and my father-in-law Neil if I need to sort out my online banking. At the respectable age of 38, I know I should be better equipped to adapt to the world of AI and technology, yet I still find myself at the back of the class. But my home is a bit of a tech dream. I never realised how much I loved my home gadgets until I wrote this column, which started out as a love letter to my Qooker tap. I have fallen in love with it. Everything I need comes out of it – cold filtered water, carbonated water for my vodka soda lime, and boiling water for my endless cups of tea. I have been using it for a few years now in London, as the tap water here is undrinkable and it’s the same in Howth, my beautiful home town. I hesitate to say anything negative about Howth, but the water is not good!
I didn’t drink coffee until my third child, Otto, was born and I knew I’d never sleep again, but then I was hooked. By the time they were all fast asleep I was already addicted. I was drinking a lot of Nespresso until I went over to my cousin Sheena’s house and she made coffee for me in her Sage coffee machine, which was a total game changer. It’s an expensive machine but I bought it on sale at Arnotts and I can honestly say the taste just doesn’t compare.
