The Republic of Ireland follows Norway and Spain in announcing that it will recognize a Palestinian state.
Irish Prime Minister Simon Harris said Wednesday’s action was an important step.
He added that he was “confident” that other countries would follow suit.
Israel criticized the announcement, claiming Ireland’s actions promote terrorism.
