- Maria Troskova was called a “sexy assistant” due to sudden appointment
- Diplomats furious when model with ‘questionable reputation’ meets Chancellor Angela Merkel
Robert Fico’s glamorous “chief national adviser” role was closely linked to his fall from grace over the 2018 mafia scandal.
Fico, who returned to power last year, resigned as prime minister less than three weeks after a wave of public outrage over the murders of journalist Jan Kuciak and his fiancee Martina Kusnirova.
Kuciak, the first journalist to be killed for his work in Slovakia, was investigating ties between the Fico government and organized crime.
Maria Troskova, a 27-year-old former Miss World contestant who has also appeared in nude photo shoots, was appointed by Fico despite her inexperience. She was subsequently referred to as a “sexy assistant” in Slovak tabloids, but the government refused to reveal why she was hired or the nature of her role.
But diplomats were furious that a “less successful model with a questionable reputation” was allowed to attend talks with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
While investigating this apparently bizarre employment, Kuciak discovered that he was dealing with an expatriate member of Italy’s notorious ‘Ndrangheta mafia family, which is involved in the transport of cocaine and theft of EU subsidies. It is said that he discovered that.
The Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project said Kuciak was investigating whether Troskova may have been acting as an intermediary between the mafia and the Slovak government at the time of her murder.
Ms. Troskova resigned from her position, saying she “definitely”. [refuted] He had nothing to do with the twins’ murders, but a few days later his former boss, Mr. Fico, chased him through the door. Little seems to be known about her since Troskova’s resignation. She could not be reached for comment.
