On Saturday night Carl Frampton watched Belfast boxer Anthony Cacace become IBF world champion.
Frampton was in Riyadh as part of TNT Sports’ coverage of the big fight night, headlined by the undisputed heavyweight showdown between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk at Kingdom Arena.
Cacace delivered the best performance of his career, stopping champion Cordina in the eighth round of their super featherweight bout. “Andytown Apache” held Cordina to third place and won most of the battle.
Then in the 8th inning, he hit a big right to send Cordina into the ropes, and another devastating shot forced referee Bob Williams to intervene.
In footage shared by TNT Sports on social media, Frampton can be seen feeling every blow of the contest. The former two-time world champion could not sit still for the entire match, biting his nails and jumping off his chair.
He can be seen shouting “Come on, Ant!” And when “Good Shot Ant” and Cacace finished in Cordina, his emotions fully took over.
Frampton looked down at the camera and exclaimed, “I said it. I said it. Ant Cacasse. World champion. I can’t believe it!”
