A Birmingham venue once voted “the world’s best gin bar” has invited customers to “come join us for a drink” after realizing it was “empty”. 40 St. Paul’s in the Jewelry District said it had been unusually quiet this month, blaming it on a cost-of-living crisis and “ignorant” leadership.
The St Paul’s Square bar, which was voted the world’s best gin bar in 2019, opened yesterday, Friday, May 17, after patrons who enjoyed drinks implored others to support local businesses. Posted in X. The venue said, “I’m angry that May was so quiet.
“Normally we would be able to weather this storm and continue doing great things, but these are tough times for our industry as the cost of living affects everyone and we are still suffering from ignorant leadership.” It’s time. Come and drink some zombies with us.

40 It appears St. Paul’s Cathedral was not the only one to weather the storm. Lucky 7, another bar on nearby Frederick Street, posted, “We had 3 tables available by 9pm…”
Number 40 is described as “warm, cozy and a favorite secret” with “relaxing, beautiful drinks, table service and great music”. It has won numerous awards, including being named “Birmingham’s Best Cocktail Bar” at the Independent Birmingham Awards in 2019.
