After decades of hype and suspicion, a giant factory capable of pulling thousands of tonnes of carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere is coming online.
On May 8, Swiss startup Climeworks opened the world’s largest carbon absorption plant in Helichedi, Iceland. The plant, called ‘Mammoth’, is designed to remove 36,000 tonnes of carbon each year, which he says is the equivalent of taking 8,600 cars off the road.
