British Athletics (UKA) today announced Zarnell Hughes as the captain of the Great Britain and Northern Ireland squad for Round 24 of this weekend’s World Athletics Relays Bahamas.
UKA’s goal for the World Athletics Relay Bahamas 24 is for all relay teams to qualify for the Paris Olympics. The championship is the culmination of a two-week relay training camp in Florida, and the teams selected for each race will be announced on Saturday.
Darren Campbell, Head of Sprints, Hurdles and Relays, said:
“I’m really happy to see Zarnel develop into a world individual medalist over the last year. His actions as an individual and as a team athlete have been very focused, making him the ideal team captain to lead by example. Masu.”
Hughes, the British 100m and 200m record holder, said:
“When Darren approached me at camp and asked, I was a little hesitant at first, but then I said to myself, ‘I got this!’ We came here to qualify for Paris. We know we will go to Paris and win. I know if I bring my A game, stick to my checkmarks and bring it to me every day, I’ll be able to work there this weekend. ”
Each team will qualify for Paris by reaching their respective finals. Heats for all competitions will be held on Saturday, with the finals scheduled for Sunday night at the Thomas A. Robinson National Stadium in Nassau.
