This sleep “pod” is a mattress packed with sensors

2,345 pounds. eightsleep.com
One of the necessities of the current fusion of technology and wellness in the United States is this “sleep system.” A “pod” is essentially a mattress cover filled with sensors that regulate body temperature by heating and cooling depending on measurements taken throughout the night and tracking your sleep patterns. You can also do this with the two of your girlfriends who share the bed, i.e. the sweaty partner. You can cool down while snuggled next to you. One friend told me it changed her life, and having a sweaty bedmate of my own, I can understand that.

Loop Quiet 2 Earplugs
£24.95. loopearplugs.com
If your sleep problems have more to do with your neighbors, kids, or snoring partner than the noise in your head, consider upgrading your flimsy foam earplugs. Different sized ear tips ensure an optimal fit, ensuring optimal levels of noise reduction without total audio blackout.

Record sleep with EEG sensor
somny sleep smart headband
$299. somnysleep.com
This futuristic-looking headband may not be the sexiest thing to wear to bed, but it might be the smartest. It works by measuring brain activity using EEG (electroencephalogram) sensors. Feedback says it essentially provides a 15-minute personalized “stimulation session” with rhythms and patterns to encourage your brain to sleep. Although the sensation is mild, like a tingling or warmth on the forehead, the results are impressive. They claim it can cut the time it takes to fall asleep in half (and according to their research, it’s four times more effective than melatonin tablets).
It’s not currently being shipped to the UK, but enterprising (desperate?) insomniacs are asking friends to send it across the pond.

Philips Sleep headphones are paired with the app
philips sleep headphones
£249.99; philips.co.jp
You may love falling asleep to your favorite true crime podcast, but waking up again 30 minutes later to hear someone describing the details of a murder case isn’t ideal. These headphones prevent that by monitoring your sleep (via built-in sensors), fading the audio, and (optional) introducing white noise as your sleep breaks. Paired with the sleep app Kokoon, you can track your sleep, tap into a library of sleep-inducing audio (from meditations to soundscapes), and even keep up with those awful podcasts if you want.
Clever features like ultra-thin earbuds covered in ultra-soft silicone make them comfortable even when sleeping on your side.

Dyson purifier Hepa Cool fan
£549.99; Dyson Co., Ltd.
For at most two hot weeks of the year in the UK, Dyson fans are your best companions. Sure, being cooler may help you sleep better, but why not take it a step further and improve your air quality as well? The company’s Cooling Purifier (set specifically for mostly quiet nights) Removes dust, allergens, formaldehyde, and other contaminants from the air that can cause sniffles, dry throat, and other stress on the quality of your night’s sleep.
