A week after its launch, Rabbit launched the first wireless launch of the R1, a $199 AI device that aims to save you a few clicks by answering questions, identifying objects, and interacting with apps on your behalf. (OTA) Update released. .

The new OTA update fills in some gaps found by early customers and reviewers. This includes improvements to battery life, server connectivity, music playback, Bluetooth reliability, and more, all of which were decreasing rapidly during our testing.
R1 users can get updates by simply turning on their device, connecting the USB-C cable for power, and connecting to the internet via cellular or Wi-Fi. A few minutes after I did this, I saw an update UI with a percentage meter. The entire process took approximately 10 minutes, but your time may vary.
Here’s what Rabbit says will be included in the OTA update:
- Up to 5x better battery performance at idle
- Added time zone selection to R1 settings menu / Added correct time zone for R1 based on GPS location
- Rabbit OS is now more aware of when to use GPS to query location information and how to utilize that information.
- Improved detection of server connections and freeing of linked resources
- Improved R1 music playback UI
- Improved reliability of Bluetooth connections
- Improved stability of the long meeting assistant/recorder.
- Improved accuracy of time-related information during conversations
In particular, “idle battery performance” has been improved by up to 5x, solving one of the biggest issues we had when we first reviewed the R1. If you don’t use your device, your battery will drop at a worrying rate. This is faster than any other new gadget I’ve tested. Although Rabbit did not reveal the root cause of the battery issue, Rabbit CEO Jesse Liu suggested that his team had already discovered the culprit. April 25th.

After the update, I noticed a dramatic change in my R1’s battery life, and for the better. As I write this article during my morning commute, R1 remains at 100%, which is refreshing.
It’s also refreshing that R1 displays accurate East Coast time. This device was previously locked to Pacific Time. You can turn on automatic time zone within R1’s settings. It now has a “Time” option.
According to Rabbit, with every OTA update, R1 will also receive “cloud updates” that users won’t have to manually install. These will be deployed as soon as the engineering team marks them as ready and should bring small but welcome optimizations to AI devices.
