An Amazon shopper claimed he was scammed out of $1,855 after purchasing items on the platform.
Photos of the reported scam were posted on the popular Reddit platform r/amazonprime.
Over 100,000 Amazon shoppers use the platform to discuss products and share advice.
One user posted a few photos of the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 graphics processing unit he purchased.
The box was sealed with plastic, and there was nothing unusual about it from the outside.
“I finally fell victim to a return scam and paid $1,855 for a bag of flour,” a disgruntled user wrote.
They provided five images of the box, including one that showed there was no processing equipment inside.
Instead, a defective piece of flour is marked in its place, even though the box appeared unopened before the customer opened it.
“The first red flag was that the Gigabyte graphics card was not shrink-wrapped (it had never been shrink-wrapped; anyone can watch the unboxing video on YouTube), but the weight I felt fine,” wrote an Amazon customer.
Next to a photo of a bag of flour, they wrote, “A bag of flour for $1855. Weighed the new 4090 to fit in a box this size.”

The Reddit post has over 2,000 upvotes and over 700 comments.
“When I ordered the book, they sent me a toothbrush!
“The toothbrush was worth a lot more than the book, so I just didn’t return it and Amazon sent me two more books,” one Reddit user replied.
“If you don’t fight this, the same thing will keep happening to other people,” said another.
“Even if you don’t get a refund, it would be better for everyone to return it. We hope that Amazon can identify who returned it.
“We all know that’s probably not the case, but absorbing this loss just won’t help,” another wrote.
