Alia Al Khafaji, founder of beauty and wellness platform OKTA, shares her beauty routine.
Tell us about your morning routine.
The first thing I do in the morning is start oil pulling with organic coconut oil. Then move on to a back stretch to open up your sleeping muscles. I currently use the Indy Lee Brightening Cleanser in the morning because I love how refreshing the strawberry seed extract feels first thing in the morning. In some cases, you may not use a cleanser and just use warm water and a damp face towel. Let’s start with the eye cream/serum. So I use Oio Lab All in-eye-&lid contour Serum, which is a lightweight gel. I like to mix this with Indie Lee Restorative eye cream. I like to keep my routine to a minimum, so I’m currently using Khus+Khus’ Kai Repair Balm and gently massaging it into my skin for my last step in the morning: sun protection. I alternate between using the Indie Lee SPF Primer and Suntegrity Impeccable Skin.
How is your evening routine different?
I want to give myself more time at night. It’s like a sacred nighttime ritual that I prioritize above all else. In my mind, the day is washed away. I start by cleansing my face and I love using the Indie Lee Cleansing Balm here. The texture of the balm is very soothing and soothing to the skin, creating a sensuous feel. Massage a dallop size onto your dry face for a few minutes. I don’t wear makeup and this really helps break up what’s on my face. My favorite way to remove it is to use a warm, wet face towel to wipe it all over. It always makes my skin feel plump and supple. The ritual continues with a shower over your hair and body. I am currently using the Third Rose scented Corpus Body Wash. Once a week, add Indie Lee AHA Exfoliating Solution after showering. Repeat the eye and face routine using the same products, but in the evening apply Kai Repair Balm followed by Gua Sha.
What are your go-to skin care products?
I have a few classic favorites that I keep coming back to. In addition to “Indie Lee Brightening Cleanser,” “Indie Lee Cleansing Balm” is now available. You should also add Khus+Khus Milk Cleanser here. I love face mist so my top two are Indie Lee coq10 toner and Khus+Khus Especial K toning mist. Overall, I prefer balms and face oils over creams, so Khus+Khus The Fix potion is my new go-to for my face. I also love the Oio Lab serum. This is because it is lightweight and moisturizes the skin. For the body, the two I’ve used the most are Khus+Khus Rasa Restorative and Indie Lee Coconut Citrus Body Scrub.
Are you a fan of masks?
Me too, but to be honest I don’t use it very often.
How would you describe your approach to makeup?
I like to play around with makeup from time to time to reflect a certain look or mood. But overall I think it’s very minimalistic. I’m interested in makeup and appearance. However, I like to keep it very natural.
What do you always have in your makeup bag?
Lip Balm and Oio Labo Melting Blush – Just to be sure, add a little blush to your cheeks, lips and eyelids and apply 15ml of Abel Eau de Parfum.
What is your favorite scent right now?
When it comes to fragrances, the current number one is Black Anis, followed by Pose and Cyanori, followed by Golden Neroli and Nurture, all of which are from Abel. ABEL room sprays last even longer.
How do you choose your night scent?
I always follow my mood and what I’m feeling at that moment. Therefore, using fragrance will further enhance that mood element. I tend to go for more sensual scents at night. For example, black anise is perfect and I love wearing it after burning buffour. This combination is perfect!
Tell us about your hair routine.
Contrary to popular opinion, I like to wash my hair every day. My routine is very simple and I use a gentle, moisturizing shampoo and conditioner every day. Add a hair mask to your conditioner while showering twice a week.
What is the most unusual item in your makeup bag?
A versatile oil or balm like Indie Lee Squalene Oil can be used for anything that requires hydration on the go. Especially if you need something for your hands and keep losing your hand cream.
