Pupils at a West Norfolk secondary school are in great shape after a new fitness suite opened on site.
Smithdon High School in Hunstanton has state-of-the-art equipment to help students not only stay healthy but also mentally.
It features both free weights and cardio machines, as well as space for other gym-based activities and training.
The fitness suite, located next to the school’s gymnasium, was officially opened after the February half-term break, with funding from the Opening of School Facilities (OSF) programme.
Jamie Tilley, head of physical education at the school, a member of the West Norfolk Academy Trust, said: .

“Our weights are built with a variety of weights to complete the exercises on the weight bench. We also have a section where students can enjoy boxercise, yoga and other fitness classes similar to those found in gyms and leisure centres. .”
A Department for Education investment initiative to deliver the goals of the Government’s School Sport and Activity Action Plan, OSF supports schools to expand their existing sports facilities to better support the health, fitness and wellbeing of young people. Masu.
Mr Tilley added: “OSF is about opening up school facilities to provide students with access to sporting activities and the opportunity to participate in physical activity.
“The fitness suite will be available to all students and staff at Smithdon High School, as well as the after-school club. We are also incorporating it into the curriculum for use in PE classes.”
“We want to encourage living a healthy lifestyle at Smithdon and having a fitness suite is the first step in promoting this,” he continued. “Giving students access to fitness early in life provides skills they can use to maintain a healthy lifestyle throughout their lives.
“Skills like control, proper form, and how to use gym equipment effectively are all tools that help build confidence, fitness, and fun. And channeling that stress into fitness is a great way to relax and It’s a healthy way to improve your overall health.”
Headteacher Amanda Gibbins added: She said: “It’s great that we can further develop our sports facilities to reflect our students’ interests and modern approaches to fitness.
“Students are already excited to have this equipment available every day. Mr. Tilley has created an amazing buzz, and not just about the fitness suite itself.”
