Nat Haynes, from Milton Keynes, will run in the Armed Forces charity SSAFA’s London Marathon in April to mark the 14th anniversary of her marriage to a military man.
Nat has been wanting to run the London Marathon for the past 13 years and had applied to vote, but was unsuccessful. When she heard that SSAFA accepted her as a runner, she was very happy.
Mr Nutt said: “The London Marathon has been a goal of mine for many years and running for SSAFA this year is especially emotional as my husband is retiring from the Royal Air Force. I want to give something back.” We are a service family. ”
Nat’s husband, Russ, served in the Royal Air Force for 14 years and is due to retire this year. When military personnel transition to civilian life, it can be a difficult time. From leaving military housing, doctors, and school to adjusting to different work cultures, many things can feel difficult. SSAFA runs a mentoring service to support military families who may be struggling with the changes that occur as they advance.
Nat and Russ just moved to the area, so Nat uses his race training to get to know all the best trails.
Nat said: “It was tough moving in the middle of training, but I’m really happy to finally have my own home. I’ve also found a really nice place to run. I have a lot of friends and family. They came to London to support us, which motivates me even more.”
Nat also works in defense relations management, encouraging companies to support the Armed Forces Code. This is another reason why she knew her fundraising for SSAFA was the perfect fit for her.
Nat needs to raise more than £2,500 in sponsorship to run the event. If you would like to support her and her SSAFA, please visit her website.
