Germany won 11 of the 12 medals at the bobsled world championships, marking the most dominant performance by a country in the history of the event on Sunday.
Francesco Friedrich drove a four-person sled to victory as part of Germany’s medal sweep. A week later, he led Germany’s medal sweep in the two-man competition on its home ice in Winterberg.
Friedrich, 33, who plans to retire after the 2026 Olympics, extended his record to 14 world titles in two-a-side and four-a-side competitions. Friedrich also won gold medals in the two-man and four-man events at the past two Olympics.
On Saturday, Lisa Buckwitz and Vanessa Mark led the Germans with a sweep of the two women’s medals, with Americans Keisha Love and Azalea Hill coming in fourth.
The only non-German bobsledder to win a medal at the world championships was American Elana Meyers-Taylor, who won silver monobob last weekend after Laura Nolte.
In the history of world bobsledding, which dates back to 1930, Germany has won the most medals.
Since the women’s event was added in 2000, Germany has become the most dominant country in the world, winning seven out of nine medals in 2008 and nine out of 12 medals in 2021.
